Beth's Birth Story
I started pregnancy yoga when I was 14 weeks. From the first session I was instantly put at ease and felt so relaxed and comfortable. Each week we all got to know each other a little more and I made great pregnancy friends.
As my pregnancy progressed, Victoria and the other mums in the group found out I was a single mum and as I had another child at home I was probably going to have to go to hospital and birth my second baby on my own as my mum would have to stay home and look after my older child. Victoria offered to come with me which was a huge relief but then I started to look at a home birth and Victoria had experienced one and suggested it. On the night of my labour I woke in the early hours of the morning, I knew it was time so I got my mum to pump up the birth pool and I rang Victoria and my midwife. It felt like only minutes and they were there with me.
Vic held my hand through every contraction, played the music I wanted through a speaker she had bought with her and softly spoke to me, reassuring me. After five hours of labour our special Heathcliff was born in the birth pool in our dining room. Vic was such an amazing and calming support and she will forever be a special part of mine and Heathcliff’s life and birth story. I went on to enjoy another home birth with my third son Rupert. Being in your home surroundings is just so much more empowering, you feel much less like you are a ‘patient’. Home birth is just like another part of daily life, it normalises birth and makes us more aware that we are capable of giving birth without drugs and medical intervention. I would definitely recommend a home birth.
